The world’s nine most expensive durian fruits went under the hammer over the weekend at the “King of Durian 2019” charity event in Bangkok, with the costliest one auctioned off for 1,500,000 baht. The event was organized by the agricultural office of Nonthaburi province.
Kanyao durian, also called long stem durian, is one of the most expensive durian varieties in Bangkok. A regular durian usually sells for around 500 baht (16 U.S. dollars) in Thailand, but one kanyao durian starts at 20,000 baht (638 U.S. dollars).
Maliwan Han Chai Thai, a durian farm owner, told Yahoo News that the shape, color and hardness of the kanyao durian make it pricey.
