The accused were identified as Shivpujan Mahto (45) and Vishal Kumar (28), both natives of village Jalgovind under Barh police station area. Police said Shivpujan drives a passenger bus for a private operator between Patna and Nalanda while Vishal had flunked thrice in his matriculation and does nothing.
Rural SP Anand Kumar on Wednesday said it was Shivpujan who had raped the woman after dragging her out of the river while she kept crying and begging for mercy and Vishal continued to record the entire incident and later circulated it to others.
“The incident took place between 10am to 11am on Sunday when the victim was bathing on the bank of the river,” he said.
Kumar said that the victim was also of the same village from where the two accused belonged.
“She had completely supressed the ordeal faced on Sunday and had told no one. The matter surfaced before police only after the video became viral on Tuesday afternoon,” he said adding the woman’s husband works in Delhi and she has two daughters and a son.
The SP also said that when police, after ascertaining the identity of the victim reached her residence, she was not ready to lodge a case.
“It was only after persuading her for a long time that she became ready to give her statement after which she recorded her statement before police against the accused persons,” he said.
The SP also said that the police had also recovered the cellphone from which video of the rape incident was recorded but perhaps accused had deleted it. “It would be sent to forensic laboratory for retrieving the deleted video,” he said.
SSP Manu Maharaaj said police would ensure that chargesheet would be submitted in the case at the earliest and request would be made to court for a speedy trial.
