ICC refuses to accept Faiszer’s Committee?

A group is said to be preparing to file objections with the ICC against the decision taken by the Acting Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha to appoint the current Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as an Interim Committee to continue operations until fresh elections are held.

This objection is being prepared by a group who was preparing to contest the Cricket elections.

They also point out that the said Committee cannot be termed an Interim Committee.

They point out that this is a mere extension of the term of the current administration, which was scheduled to end on May 31.

This interim committee comprises of members of the existing committee.

However, the former Speaker and President of Sri Lanka Cricket had told the media previously, that if measures are taken to appoint interim committees, Sri Lanka could lose its ICC membership.

Thilanga’s letter causing issues!

The ‘Island’ newspaper has previously reported that nearly a hundred sports clubs in support of Thilanga Sumathipala had written to the ICC requesting not to allow Sri Lanka Cricket to appoint an interim committee.

That too has now become an issue, according to cricket experts.

No interim committee until I am removed - Dayasiri

During his term as the Sports Minister, Dayasiri Jayasekara had said that as long as he is the sports minister no interim committee would be appointed to any sport’s governing body, not only cricket and that if an interim committee was to be appointed, then he too would have to be removed as the Sports Minister prior to appointing such interim committees.

Jayasekara said this at a workshop organised at the Water’s Edge in Battaramulla, which was organised to find solutions to the cricket crisis in the country.

He had once told BBC Sandeshaya that the main reason for the downfall of the game of cricket in the country is the cricket interim committee that was  established which was once headed by Minister Arjuna Ranatunge.
