Ana invited to challenge Thilanga

Former cricket chief Ana Punchihewa is reportedly going to be a challenger to Thilanga Sumathipala when SLC elections take place shortly.

Punchihewa was the chairman when Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996, but he was defeated by Sumathipala at elections two months later.

Disappointed in the cricket administration, Punchihewa then got involved in golf.

When contacted, he confirmed to Sri Lanka Mirror that he had been invited by several sides to contest again, but said he was yet to take a decision.

One invitation came at the Nelson Mendis cricket tournament yesterday (21), where he was the chief guest, the first non-national player to be honoured thus.
