Speaking, President of the Athletic Association (AASL) - Major Palitha Fernando said that the championship which was last held in 2013 was postponed several times due to the lack of proper venues.
He added that Sri Lanka is able to host the SAJAC since the renovations of the Sugathadasa Stadium have reached its final stages.
Initial selection of Sri Lankan team will be done after the Junior National Championship to be held from 26 to 29 March while trials for relay and 3000m will be held on 7 April.
This means Junior athletes will have three international championship this year and after the South Asian Junior the Asian Junior Athletics Championship will be held in Japan in June where a pool of athletes is already picked.
The IAAF World Junior Championship too will be held in July. Youth Olympics (U-18) also will be held later this year.
This will be first International Athletics Championship in Sri Lanka after more than four years after SL last hosted an international athletic championship in 2013 (Asian Grand prix third edition).
