Chief national selector to NZ with junior team! Featured

Chief national selector Graham Labrooy will be among the officials who will tour New Zealand this month along with a team for the under-19 world cup.

Sri Lanka Cricket will meet the costs of the trip for Labroory, as well as school cricket secretary Kapila Jayalath, who will be in charge of the team, and association chief Oshara Panditharatne and treasurer Manjula Vaas who will act as as observers, association members told Sri Lanka Mirror.

Former cricketer Roshan Mahanama told a recent meeting to discuss school cricket development convened by education minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam that another player could have been sent, instead of sending those officials.

Also, Labrooy’s trip to NZ is controversial, as he is dodging the national team’s tour of Bangladesh.

Previously, the then chief national selector Asantha de Mel toured Australia along with an under-19 team.
