Mathews reveals plans to step down

Current Sri Lanka cricket team captain Angelo Mathews has said he will step down from his captaincy as there are two others suitable for the post and to allow a team to be put together for the next world cup.

He made this comment at a press briefing at Cri Lanka Cricket.

He told media that he takes full responsibility for the Zimbabwe one day defeat. “As a captain the instances that you have to stand alone are greater. Hence being a captain is not an easy task. Also there is a time when you must step down and one should not be greedy for positions. I feel I did the right thing even though I may have made the wrong decisions at times,” he said.

Tharanga for one day – Chandimal for test captaincy

During the ongoing media briefing in Colombo, Thilanga Sumathipala announced that Upul Tharanga will captain the team for the ODIs and Twenty20 matches, while Dinesh Chandimal has been appointed as the test captain.
