Victorious team returns sans welcome

The Sri Lankan cricket team that won the Bangladesh Test series arrived in Sri Lanka today (28) and it is reported that no government officials, ministers or relatives were present at the Katunayake airport to welcome the players.

The Sri Lankan team arrived at the Katunayake International Airport on 05/28 at 03.20 pm on a SriLankan Airlines flight UL-190 from Dhaka, Bangladesh with the trophy.

"We toiled hard to win this trophy. Our fast bowlers played an important role in winning,” said Captain Dimuth Karunaratne upon their arrival at the Katunayake Bandaranayake Airport.

"The pitch at Mirpur Stadium was different from the one at Chittagong Stadium. It was designed to benefit the fast bowlers.

The action taken by our fast bowlers contributed significantly towards this victory. However, our spin attack was at a low level.

If they had played better, we could have reached victory much sooner,” Dimuth Karunaratne said.

He also said that the fielding and spin bowling skills must be developed in preparation for the upcoming Australia and Pakistan tournaments.

He said that it is likely that the pitches would be made to benefit the spin bowlers.

Sri Lanka won the two-Test series 1-0 against Bangladesh.
