Signs of T-20 captaincy change: Is Dasun Shanaka the new captain? Featured

The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee is said to be focused on making a change in the captaincy for the upcoming T-20 World Cup, it is reported.

Accordingly, the changes will take place from the next match. Out of the total of 13 T-20 matches captained by Lasith Malinga, Sri Lanka had only managed to win the New Zealand tournament in August. While Sri Lanka had lost the rest of the 11 matches, They only managed to win the T-20 tournament against Pakistan last year.

Will discuss with Malinga and take a decision

A senior official at SLC stated that a decision regarding the change of captaincy would have to be done after discussing the matter with the current T-20 Captain Lasith Malinga. Although Malinga is a clever player, the Sri Lankan team has been on a losing streak under his captaincy. Therefore, a decision will have to be taken soon regarding the appointing of a new captain, he said.

Dasun Shanaka as captain?

Discussions have been held between the selection committee and coach Mickey Arthur regarding the restructuring of the T-20 team prior to the World Cup.

According to reliable sources, it is likely that Dasun Shanaka would be appointed as the new T-20 team captain.

Shanaka had steered the Sri Lanka team to victory against Pakistan and won the series 3-0. He had also captained a team at the Bangladesh Premier League last month and therefore, he is tipped to be appointed as the T-20 team captain, it is reported.
