Gurusinghe leaves after creating chaos at SLC

Asanka Gurusinghe, the manager of High Tech Performance Center of Sri Lanka Cricket's Kettarama Stadium, has returned to Australia recently as he was not offered an extension of service.

Gurusinghe's service period ended on 14 August and he has had requested for an extension of service . Gurusinghe had been waiting for two weeks for a decision due to a clash between former Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala's side and current SLC Chairman Shammi Silva's side.

Ultimately, however, Shammi Silva, has refused to grant him an extension of service.

It was at Thilanga Sumathipala's sole discretion that Asanka Gurusinghe, who had been in Australia for 20 years, was appointed as the Manager of the cricket team and a member of the Selection Committee.

After failing in both roles, Gurusinghe was later transferred to Kettarama and was appointed as the head of the training division, where he was deeply unpopular.

The vacancies of coaches Piyal Wijetunga, Rohitha Perera, Ajith Ekanayake and Lanka de Silva ,who were not given service extensions upon Gurusinghe's recommendation have still not been filled.

Commenting on this situation SLC coaches stated that Gurusinghe went back to Sri Lanka after creating a division at SLC and also paralysing the coaching unit.
