Coach out if the team fails to qualify for South Asia finals Featured

The Coach of the Sri Lanka Football team Rumi Pakeer Ali has been given a new target of seeing the team through to the South Asian Games finals held in Nepal, it is reported.

The Sri Lanka Football Federation has decided that if he fails in his task, he would be removed from his post as coach from next year.

The event is scheduled to be held in the first week of December and most of the under 23 players are members of the national team.

In 2006 when the South Asian games were held in Colombo the Sri Lanka team qualified for the final round but in the two subsequent games in Dhaka and Guwahati the Sri Lankans were knocked out in the first round.

Since February last year the has participated in 13 tournaments under the new coach Rumi Pakeer Ali and of them the Sri Lankan team lost 10 matches, tied one and won just one.

Pakeer Ali is a seasoned former player who has also served as coach of the Maldives, Bangladesh and Indian clubs.
