Tear gas, water cannons fired at IUSF protest

Tear gas and water cannons have been fired at students of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF), engaged in a protest against the President at Fort, Colombo.

Reports say that roads have been closed in the area.

Earlier, a court order had been obtained preventing the IUSF from entering York Street, Chatham Street, and Janadhipathi Mawatha and against damaging public property.

However, the Colombo Magistrate Court had rejected a request made by the police to prevent the planned Inter University Students Federation protest at the Polduwa Junction today.
