Meanwhile, it is being considered to involve Anton Marcus, the Joint Secretary of the Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union, for the discussion as well.
On October 16, Mr Marcus had written to the Prime Minister on the Covid-19 wave initially reported from the Brandix apparel factory, which is now spreading to other companies of the apparel industry as well. He had stated that workers of the industry are facing a severe challenge to their health and daily livelihood due to this situation.
Mr. Marcus had also stated that workers have not received their October salaries and that PCR tests were not being carried out systematically to curb the spread of the epidemic.
He had also pointed out that since some employees are not permanent residents of the Gampaha area, they do not also receive the allowance of Rs. 5,000 allotted by the government to affected residents of the area.
