No state ministries in SLPP government

If Sri Lanka Podujana Peremuna (SLPP) gains enough power to form a government after the next election, it will make plans to abolish the state minister positions, party internal sources said.

Instead, it is reported that there are plans to establish non-cabinet ministerial posts where special projects and government agencies will be assigned based on a particular subject similar to Cabinet Ministers.

According to Article 46 (1) (a) of the Constitution, the Cabinet is limited to 30 members.

It is also said that there is a plan not to appoint all the cabinet ministers at once in the first round.

Article 46 (1) (b) of the Constitution also allows the President to appoint 40 non-Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

The constitution allows for the appointment of 70 new cabinet ministers and deputy ministers.
