President's and PM's vehicles in Hambantota extension exempted from toll fee 

The last two phases of the Southern Expressway extension from Matara to Hambanthota will be opened tomorrow (23 Feb), enabling direct travel from Colombo to Hambantota on the expressway.

The 21.8 kilometer of road from Barawakumbuka to Mattala via Andarawewa and the 16.6 kilometer section from Andarawewa to Hambantota of the Southern Expressway will be thus opened for public.

The Expressway extension will be opened for public by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
With the opening of this extension, the public will be able to travel from Colombo to Hambantota in 2 and half hours and it will be possible to travel to Kataragama within 3 an half hours.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Roads and Highways has issued a special gazette notifying the toll charges applicable for the newly constructed Southern Expressway from Matara to Mattala.

Accordingly, a vehicle with two axles and four wheels will be charged Rs. 750 from Kottawa to Mattala, Rs. 850 from Kadawatha to Mattala and Rs. 950 from Katunayake to Mattala. 
A vehicle with two axles and six wheels will be charged Rs 1,900 from Katunayake to Mattala and Rs. 1500 from Kadawatha to Mattala. 
According to the gazette notification a vehicle with more than two axles will be charged Rs. 2400 from  Kottawa to Mattala , Rs. 3000 from Katunayake to Mattala and Rs. 2650 from Kadawatha to Mattala. 
It further states  that all vehicles belonging to President's and Prime Minister's security will be exempted from toll fees.
