SriLankan Airlines ex-Chief & wife surrenders

SriLankan Airlines ex-Chief Executive Kapila Chandrasena and his wife Priyanka Wijenaike who are wanted in the Airbus bribery case have surrendered to Police, reports say.

They are currently at the CID where statements are being recorded.

Earlier this week, the Attorney General had ordered for their arrest.

British court documents had revealed that a wife of a SriLankan executive had acted as an agent for the procurement of Airbus 14 aircraft, and the European aircraft manufacturer had offered 16 million US dollars as a bribe to her.

Airbus had paid 2 million US dollars to a straw company known as ‘Intermediary 1’ set up in Brunei.

Airbus agreed to pay around 3.5 billion Euros to the governments France, UK and US in a settlement following a joint investigation for alleged bribery in sales.
