Non-cabinet minister, Harsha de Silva, says he will retire from politics if he was not able to make United National Party (UNP) deputy leader Sajith Premadasa the Presidential candidate.

He has said this during a discussion held with foreign journalists regarding current political status at a meeting held at the Jefferson House (residence of US Ambassador). The meeting ,which was organized upon invitation of US Ambassador, was held following a heated cabinet meeting on the 19 September.

One of Prime Minister's advisers have also been involved in the discussion and during the discussion Harsha has further said that before he entered politics, he was earning about $ 2,500 a day and as he can currently earn about $ 4,000 from the same employment he could retire and enjoy his life while sipping glass of liquor in the evening.

The Prime Minister's adviser responding in a friendly manner has requested Harsha to give him a call while enjoying a glass of liquor after his retirement.

After Harsha's departure, the journalists have said that Prime Minister's answer is clear and the adviser's response makes it clear that Sajith will not be given the candidacy

However, Minister Harin Fernando and Minister Ajith P. Perera have said that they will retire from politics if Sajith was not given the Presidential candidacy.
