Parliament to be dissolved tonight - Keheliya

Parliament with be dissolved tonight (09), state minister of media - Keheliya Rambukwella had stated to state media.

The relevant gazette notification is currently being sent to be printed, he has added.

It is said that a General election will be held under a caretaker government after filling the vacant positions in the cabinet.

However, UNP sources say that according to the 19th Amendment, the president is unable to dissolve parliament at this juncture. If it is done, they will seek legal redress before the Supreme Court, a senior UNP figure said.

At the SLFP All Island Executive Committee meeting yesterday, the president had stated that he won't dissolve parliament.

Meanwhile, newly sworn in PM Mahinda Rajapaksa's attempt which lasted until this afternoon, to secure parliament backing had reportedly not succeeded.

Also, social media director of the Presidential Media Division - Samira de Silva's Facebook status earlier tonight saying 'Game Over', had further triggered speculation.
