No ads to Lankaenews.com, president orders Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena has told a government spokesman not to give advertisements to www.lankaenews.com, accusing the news website of trying to topple the government, say political sources.

An advertisement given to LeN by an institution coming under the minister in question has withdrawn it since yesterday (09).

The Presidential Secretariat has instructed institutions that had given advertisements to LeN to stop the advertisements, the website said yesterday.

‘Exposed thieves have given money to a website operated from overseas to sling mud at me’

This website has recently posted articles that were strongly critical of the president.

Speaking at an event to mark the second death anniversary of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, the president charged that thieves who had been exposed by a commission appointed by him have given money to a website operating from overseas to throw mud at him.

Meanwhile, LeN has become inaccessible within Sri Lanka since yesterday afternoon.

The website has claimed that the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has ordered internet service providers to block the website locally.
