22 nabbed over selling drugs to church devotees Featured

The Puttalam District Drug Prevention Unit had arrested twenty-two drug peddlers during the three days of the St. Anne’s Thalawila feast while in the possession of heroin and cannabis which they were trying to sell to the church goers.

The St. Anne’s Thalawila Church feast ended with mass on August 5th and many devotees from all parts of the country had attended the feast.

Based on an order issued by the Puttalam division DIG Champika Siriwardena and SP – J.A. Chandrasena, the officers of the dangerous drugs control unit had been among the devotees and had taken into custody the drug peddlers who were trying to sell drugs to them.

The police had arrested the 22 suspects during a three-day raid conducted by the officers of the Puttalam Division Narcotics Unit at the premises of the church and it was revealed that they had been operating this drug ring in a discreet manner.

The suspects had in their possession narcotic pills, heroin and Kerala Ganja. The suspects are to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court.
