First case will be against Gamini Senerath! Featured

The first case to be taken up by the newly-established anti-corruption high court will be the one relating to the misuse of state finances charges against chief of staff of the former president Gamini Senerath and ex-managing director of Sri Lanka Insurance Piyadasa Kudabalage.

The attorney general has sent the case to the chief justice for relevant approval, after which the suspects will be indicted, a senior official of the FCID told Sri Lanka Mirror.

Senerath and Kudabalage stand accused of spending Rs. four million of the money allocated for the Grand Hyatt Hotel project at Kollupitiya in 2012 on the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hambantota without approval.

The duo, along with a SLI director Neil Bandara, had been remanded and later released on bail.

The judges in the anti-corruption high court are Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.
