However, none of the upcountry unions participated in this strike, said Sankara Maniwannan, secretary of the Education Social Federation.
He said that all schools in the estate sector was functioning normally and none of the teachers had supported the strike.
He also noted that the Ceylon Teacher Services Association had not made any request for any of the estate unions to join the strike.
However, he noted that the demands made by the unions is fair and said that they should have gained the support of all the unions in the country.
