Presidential commission to probe ‘New York Times’ exposure? Featured

The UNP will ask president Maithripala Sirisena to appoint a commission to inquire into the ‘New York Times’ exposure that his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa had accepted campaign money from China, according to sources at Sirikotha.

A group of backbenchers led by MP Mujibur Rahman will make the request in writing.

The party meanwhile decided at its parliamentary group meeting at Temple Trees yesterday (02) to ask for an adjournment debate on the matter in parliament, says MP Thushara Indunil.

Another call for an investigation

Also calling for an investigation is SLFP national organizer Duminda Dissanayake.

Speaking to the media after a ceremony in Anuradhapura, Dissanayake said he believed there was truth in the newspaper’s allegation that Rajapaksa accepted a bribe.

He urged government authorities to hold an immediate investigation into the alleged matter.
