Bo tree falls, as Chief incumbent passes away overseas! (pics)

The Bo tree at the Chilaw, Devagiri Viharaya has fallen and within 48 hours of the incident, the chief incumbent of the temple Ven. Kobaigane Seelarathana Thera had also passed away, it was reported.

The Thera had also served as the head of the Devagiri Viharaya Daham Pasala.

The Ven. Thera who was 45-years of age had been at the Sri Rathana International Buddhist Center, Anaheim, USA at the time of his demise.

When being told of the Bo tree collapsing, Ven. Kobaigane Seelarathana Thera had taken ill and although the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Rathana International Buddhist Center, Ven. Bogolle Sumana Thera had taken immediate measures to get treatment for him, he had passed away last morning (24).

The Bo tree at the Chilaw Devagiri Viharaya had collapsed on June 21 in the evening and according to the temple members this tree is around 150 years old and is considered one of the oldest trees in the Chilaw area.

However, despite the Bo tree falling, no damage was caused to the main structure.

Measures have been taken to bring down the remains of the Ven. Seelarathana Thera to Sri Lanka.
