Engines to be bought to transport garbage to Puttalam Featured

The cabinet yesterday (19) approved a proposal by Megapolis minister Champika Ranawaka to buy train engines to help transport solid waste from urban areas.

A project has begun to dispose of the solid waste collected from urban areas to a site at Aruwakkalu in Puttalam.

Four train engines, 34 carriages and 94 wagons are required for transporting the solid waste from Kelaniya.

The cabinet has approved buying the four engines from M/S Dongfang Electric International Corporation of China at a cost of 8.27 million dollars.
