765 children in Kilinochchi lack a parent

Officials of children's homes in Kilinochchi say that there are 765 children among those who had resettled in the district after the war.

There are 387 children without mothers and 378 children without fathers, they say.

The figures have been caught the attention of president Maithripala Sirisena, during the Kilinochchi district Summit of the Daruwan Surakimu (Let's Protect Children) National Program held at the Kilinochchi Central College, June 18.

Accordingly, the president had urged officials to take measures to renovate children's homes in the district and equip them with necessary facilities.

The president has urged that a special programme should be initiated to ensure a bright future for these children who had already either their mother or father.
