Foreigners flee in fear of fever in the South

The tourism industry in the Southern region of the country and the coastal areas are badly hit by the viral fever that is spreading in that region, said those engaged in the tourist industry.

Tourists visiting the Unawatruna, Midigama, Ahangama, Weligama, Kamburugamuwa, Polhena, Thalalla, Dikwella and Tangalle areas have reduced drastically at present due to fear of the viral fever.

This has badly affected the tour operators and hoteliers in the area.

Those engaged in the tourism industry claim that due to the dwindling tourist numbers, they have been affected badly and are struggling to meet their loan payments and even their operating costs including salaries of the workers. Therefore, these tourist industry operators appeal to the government to provide them some relief considering their current plight.
