Navy chief who manhandled journalist has sought service extension Featured

Navy chief Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, who has manhandled a journalist during a workers’ protest in Hambantota port, has sought a one year service extension, as he completes 55 years of age on February 22.

Wijegunaratne has requested the extension on July 24, but president Maithripala Sirisena has not responded in his favour.

The government alleges the Navy chief has intentionally behaved in this ugly manner in order to inconvenience the government.

He should not have gone to the port, and the two ships which the protestors were preventing from leave the port, could easily have been towed into the sea using ropes, Navy sources say.
