The UNP May Day rally will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo under the patronage of party leader Ranil WIckremesinghe.
Several backbenchers of the United National Party might not be present at the party May Rally today (06) after 'falling sick'.
Speaking, Matale District MP - Ranjith Aluwihare said that a group of party supporters including himself had decided to boycott the rally due to internal disputes in the party.
Holding a media conference at his residence yesterday (05), MP Aluwihare had said he had served the UNP for long. However, the UNP is unable to emerge victorious even at the upcoming LG election without a leadership change taking place, he added.
Palitha Range among the sick
Meanwhile, speaking to media, state minister Palitha Range Bandara said that his presence at the UNP was uncertain as he is taking medical treatment these days.
Also, UNP MP Chaminda Wijesiri said that a group including himself would boycott the rally and many backbenchers are likely to fall ill today.
Everyone extending support to make May Day a success - Akila
However, the new UNP General Secretary - Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that all UNP MPs would attend the party rally.
Speaking to media after inspecting preparations for the rally at the Sugathadasa Stadium, the minister said that everyone had extended their support to make the rally a success.
