Speaking at a function at the Panadura divisional secretariat yesterday (21), he said a final decision on the new cabinet, already prepared scientifically, would be finalized once the president returned from Britain.
He said the result at the recent local government polls was received due to the rejection of a proposal by him to the two main parties to contest together.
The prime minister accepted the suggestion, but not the lawyers close to the president, said Senaratne.
He said that they would work to get their ministerial terms extended, which was now being done after accepting the election result.
JO cannot gain power
He also said the joint opposition was incapable of winning the 2020 election, as it would not be able to gain 50 per cent of the votes without the support of the Muslim and Tamil voters.
On the other hand, the government, learning from its mistakes, would unite all the forces and win the election, he added.
