4 SLFP ministers to be sworn in today: 2 ministerial posts to Malik

Four SLFP members are scheduled to be sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena this afternoon in replacement of the vacancies created by the resignation of the SLFP ministers who voted in favour of the no confidence motion against the Prime Minister.

Based on a request made by the UNP to exchange two of the ministries with those of the SLFP, the latter had agreed to this exchange.

These SLFP ministries are the Skills Development and Vocational Training and Social Empowerment and Welfare and Upcountry Heritage which the UNP had wanted to exchange.

Accordingly, Minister Malik Samarawickrama is expected to temporarily take oaths before the President as the minister for both these ministries.

However, the complete Cabinet reshuffle is expected to take effect on April 23 after the President returns from his tour of the UK.
