He said this in a statement made to the ‘Divaina’ newspaper, claiming that the people are vehemently opposed to this new taxation act as the government should be providing relief to the people rather than burdening them further with taxes. 

He had noted that the country’s development activities have waned and that the protests that are being organised against the government’s taxation will be notified shortly. 

According to Rajapaksa, this year’s May Day rally main focus would be in protest against the new IR Act.
