CTU alleges education ministry conceals information Featured

The Ceylon Teachers Union accuses the Education Ministry of not providing information being sought for several years under the right to information act.

CTU secretary Joseph Stalin told Sri Lanka Mirror that the ministry was yet to abolish the newly-introduced law to charge fees from the schoolchildren in lieu of the annual expenses of the schools.

Stalin told Sri Lanka Mirror that as a result, schoolchildren were being charged Rs. 7,000, Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 15,000.

He said his written requests to the national education secretary and provincial education secretaries seeking details of the charges in the past three years remain unanswered.

This is contrary to the said commitment mentioned in the ministry website to the right to information act.
