Not even ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa has any confidence about the no-confidence motion, going by the fact that he has not signed the document, and the joint opposition and a minority in the SLFP cannot even think of winning it, Kiriella said.
He also said any SLFP minister found to have signed it would lose his portfolio as per parliamentary tradition.
Mahinda and the JO MPs with the speaker
The no-confidence motion handed over to the speaker this afternoon has the signatures of the government members T.B. Ekanayake, Nishantha Muthuhettigama, Susantha Punchi Nilame and Cader Masthan.
Reports say it has the signatures 55 MPs.
The JO says the ex-president did not sign the document, but that he led the team that handed it over to the speaker.
