Army given minimum powers Featured

The Army has been empowered to make arrests, to disperse persons connected to crime and to use minimum force as per emergency laws, said military spokesman Brig. Sumith Atapattu.

The Army has not been given powers to shoot the perpetrators of violence in the aftermath of the clash in Digana, Kandy, he said.

According to him, no arrests have so far been made of anyone found to have violated the emergency laws.
