Joint Opposition to join the UNP rebels? Featured

The Joint Opposition will forward a no confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, said MP Namal Rajapaksa.

Participating in a live interview via FB last Friday at the BBC Headquarters in London last Friday (02), he said currently signatures are being collected to bring in a no confidence motion against the Prime Minister and even the UNP members have the opportunity to render their assistance to it.

He noted that the JO had initiated this proposal prior to the UNP members contemplating such a move.

Namal Rajapaksa further said that the Podu Jana Peramuna is also an arm of the SLFP.

When asked about his participation in political activities of the Podu Jana Peramuna while still being an SLFP member, Namal Rajapaksa said he was still a member of the SLFP, but had stepped out during the LG election to form a broader coalition.

When asked if the Podu Jana Peramuna is just a transitional organisation that would be dismantled in the future, he said the situation has now changed with the huge public support that the party has received.

Therefore, he said there was no need to dismantle the party.

Meanwhile, expressing his views with regard to the Ampara incident on the 26th where allegations that ‘sterilization pills were being mixed with food’ and the Thambuththegama clash between the villagers and police, he said the government should take responsibility for these incidents.
