The minister made this statement during a press briefing held at the ministry yesterday (20).
He said although two gas companies had made the request to increase gas prices, the government had yet not made any decision regarding their request.
The minister said the matter would be discussed with the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Cost of Living Committee and a decision would be taken.
The minister further said, “The Consumer Affairs Authority is receiving letters requesting for the increase of gas prices. But, there is a price committee to decide on this. We need to discuss this matter with all relevant parties prior to taking a final decision. Gas is an essential commodity and a pricing formula needs to be introduced. We will act only once we receive cabinet approval. Hence, there is still no definite decision with regard to the increase in gas prices,” he said.
