FCID off to Dubai to bring Udayanga home Featured

A FCID team has left for Dubai to arrest and bring home former ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga, who was detained by immigration officials yesterday (04), police headquarters sources say.

Officials of the FCID and the Foreign Affairs Ministry have spoken to authorities in Dubai and discussed the matter.

Weeratunga was stopped while in transit to the US.

He has been using a Sri Lanka passport, which has been cancelled by the Colombo Fort magistrate, who has also issued an international warrant for the arrest of the ex-diplomat.

Court-evading Weeratunga with Mahinda Rajapaksa in foreign visits

He is wanted by courts in connection with the Air Force MiG deal that took place during the previous regime.

However, he has rejected the accusations.

The media has posted pictures of court-evading Weeratunga accompanying former president Mahinda Rajapaksa in foreign visits.

The court also issued an order freezing some of the properties owned by him.
