Hambantota given to two Chinese companies

The Hambantota harbour was handed over to two China-Sri Lanka joint companies at a ceremony held at the Parliament complex this morning (09).

 The Hambantota harbour operations and services were handed over to Hambantota International Port Company (HIPG) and Hambantota International Port Services Company.

 According to the agreement, Hambantota International Port Company together with the Sri Lanka Port Development Authority is expected to develop the harbour to international standards and increase its commercial importance.

This project is an investment of $ 794 million.

 Subsequent to signing the cheque to the sum of $ 292,097,400 which is 30% of what is due to the Sri Lankan government, was handed over to the treasury by China Merchant Port Holding Company.
