The agreement to lease the Hambantota harbour to China Merchant was signed in the beginning of this year. According to the lease agreement, 70 percent of the shares of the Hambantota harbour will go to China Merchant while 30 percent will remain with the Sri Lanka Port Authority.
The Sri Lankan government is scheduled to receive around $ 1,200 million through the leasing of the Hambantota harbour to China Merchant.
