The pictures were taken when Anoma Fonseka attended a function at Lak Viru Sevana of the Thera at Wellawatte, as chairperson of Lak Wanitha Unit of the Army.
Gunawansa Thera earned the wrath of Fonseka after he commented to the media with regard to the verbal exchanges between the minister and ex-Army chief Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya over war crimes allegations.
The UNP should think if Fonseka remains in the party, said the Thera, adding that the minister’s remark would made him enter active politics.
Noting that his Naga Vihara had been visited by powerful UNP figures such as R. Premadasa, Gamini Dissanayake and Lalith Ethulathmudali, Gunawansa Thera said the public would take a decision regarding minister Fonseka whom he described as a defeatist in politics.
The Thera has formed several politically influential organizations in the past decades, including Sinhala nationalist ones.
