The COPE will hold an extensive investigation into the suspicious allocation of an additional Rs. 36,000 million to increase the lengths of flyovers in the Matara-
Beliatta stretch of the southern expressway, said COPE chairman Sunil Handunnetti.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (30), he questioned the basis for the government’s economic management committee decision to increase the length of the flyovers by 2.78 km.
According to him, that had been done without any engineering reports, by a few officials.
The public or parliament should have been consulted when allocating such a large amount of money additionally, he noted.
He said the officials involved would be summoned before COPE.
