The president and the PM are due to meet this morning to take a final decision.
Political sources say what the UNP parliamentary group meeting at Temple Trees discussed yesterday will be elaborated on at this discussion.
Wickremesinghe told the group that he would meet the president to inform him about the UNP’s decision with regard to Rajapakshe.
The minister was given time until yesterday by the UNP to step down, but he did not do so, and therefore, the PM is expected to handover a letter to the president, asking for his removal, said a ruling MP.
Rajapakshe was absent at the UNP parliamentary group meeting.
Party MP Nalin Bandara, speaking to Sri Lanka Mirror, stressed his party’s position that the minister should resign from his position.
