High harvest from organically-cultivated paddy

Harvesting began on August 16 on an organically-cultivated five-acre paddy field at Pudukodiya at Manampitiya in Polonnaruwa under the supervision of agrarian officials.

Cultivated free of any agrochemical, it gave a 115 bushel per acre yield despite the prevailing droughts.

Agricultural officials in Padaviya say the yield from D1 and D2 areas of Padaviya Sri Pura was as much as 177.5 bushels per acre.

This is the second year of the three-year national plan for a toxin free nation.
