Navy chief seeks another service extension! Featured

Navy commander Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne has requested yet another service extension from president Maithripala Sirisena, defence ministry sources say.

The six month extension he was given, upon having reached 55 years of age on 22 February, is due to expire on 22 August.

If his term is extended again, two rear admirals Travis Sinniah and Sirimevan Wijesinghe will be denied the opportunity to become the Navy commander, as they retire in six months’ time.
