Proposal to remove the STF head!

The National Police Commission has taken a decision to remove the Head of the STF Senior DIG M R Latheef  from his post with immediate effect and had tabled it, it is reported.

They claim his appointment was illegal.

It is said that only a DIG can be appointed for this position and accordingly, the proposal had been made to remove Latheef from this post.

Senior DIG - M. R. Latheef was appointed to this post on August 4, 2016 based on the recommendations of the National police Commission.

According to police internal sources, upon assuming his duties, Latheef had taken measures to recall all security provided to retired STF personnel, drivers and soldiers deployed based on personal friendships with former heads. He had also refused to allow STF personnel to be used for any unlawful activity, which had contributed to opposition from those unhappy with his strict conduct.

Further he was also on the bad books of the higher ups for not ordering the STF personnel to purchase a book written by a retired police chief.

Latheef’s rival with President

Meanwhile, it is also revealed that a security Chief attached to the President’s security detail had asked for back-up vehicles, which Latheef had refused , which is said to have contributed to this proposal being forwarded, according to internal sources.

Senior DIG - M. R. Latheef after assuming duties on August 18, 2016, was known to have  taken measures to remove all corrupt officials within the STF and had taken measures to steer the STF in a righteous path.

It is also revealed that Law and Order Ministry secretary Jagath P. Wijeweera had also intervened in order to resolve this issue.

According to internal sources, Finance Ministry approval is required for a Senior DIG to hold this position.
