Mangala’s secretary not connected to drug finding!

A secretary of minister Mangala Samaraweera has been granted bail following his arrest on a drug offence charge, as it has been found that he was not connected to the drugs found, a senior official of the police headquarters said.

The senior police official was responding to a question posed by Sri Lanka Mirror over an article published by a website with links to the joint opposition which claimed a secretary of Samaraweera had been arrested with a cache of drugs.

When the STF searched the car the secretary in question had been travelling, three grams of cocaine, four grams of pills, nine grams of hashish and nine grams of kush were found from the possession of another person in the vehicle.

After he admitted guilty, the STF searched the home of the suspect and found 18 bottles of foreign liquor and 400 illegally-imported cigarettes too.

All occupants of the car were produced before Mt. Lavinia magistrate C.A. Dharmaratne and the person who admitted guilt was remanded, while the others were given bail.

Police informed the court that the others were not aware of the presence of the drugs in the vehicle.
