Plot made to blame Vidya rape, murder on Navy! Featured

The persons who had committed the gang-rape and murder of Jaffna schoolgirl Sivaloganathan Vidya in May 2015 had plotted to place the blame of their crime on the Navy or other section of the military, CID inspector Nishantha Silva has told the Jaffna high court.

He was giving evidence before the high court trial-at-bar, comprising judges Balendran Sashi Mahendran, Manikkawasagar Ilancheliyan and Annalingam Paramashankar.

The police officer said the attempt to implicate the Navy was based on the location of a Navy camp two kilometres away from the crime scene.

He also said the investigators found the girl’s spectacles, wrapped with an old pair of trousers, from the home of the sixth suspect.

When the suspects were being detained at Vavuniya Prison, a person identifying himself as Ifthap had telephoned and offered a Rs. 20 million bribe to make the fourth and the ninth suspects witnesses of the state, he also said.

The nine suspects – Pubalasingham Indrakumar, Pubalasingham Jeyakumar, Pubalasingham Thawakkumar, Mahalingam Sashitharan, Thillenathan Chandrahasan, Sivadevan Dushanth, Palani Rupasingham Kugadasan, Jeyatharan Kokilan and Mahalingam Shashidaran – were produced at the hearing.
