Don’t let PM to be summoned by the commission - Ravi Featured

Minister Ravi Karunanayake alleges a conspiracy to bring prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe before the presidential commission inquiring into the Central Bank bond sales and insult him.

He urges backbenchers of the UNP to rally and prevent it from happening.

Karunanayake also says his being implicated in this issue is clearly a political conspiracy.

If this is allowed any further, many top UNP figures will be summoned before the commission in order to take a wrong picture to society and to divide the party, he warns.

‘Hon. PM’ and ‘Get a copy from PM’

However, social media is saying the PM will have to appear before the commission in light of the revelations made from the data of Perpetual Treasuries director Arjun Aloysius’ mobile phone.

According to the report on the data, several SMS messages sent from the phone mentioned ‘Hon. PM’ and ‘Get a copy from PM’, and these references are said to be to PM Wickremesinghe.

Bad for govt.

At the time the bond sales took place, the Central Bank functioned under him, and it was upon a promise by him that he would take the responsibility that the president appointed Arjun Mahendran as the bank’s chairman despite opposition from the cabinet.

However, the commission is yet to decide whether to summon the PM, and in the event that happens, it will be bad for the government’s continuation, according to social media.
