Foreign diplomatic mission behind H’pota port debate sabotage? Featured

Cabinet spokesman Dayasiri Jayasekara says he is certain a powerful foreign diplomatic mission is behind the joint opposition’s disruption of the parliamentary debate on the agreement to lease Hambantota port to China.

This foreign diplomatic mission led a group to sabotage the debate and just before it happened, it gave a telephone call to one JO MP, Jayasekara told the cabinet news briefing yesterday (02).

There was no reason whatsoever to make an issue over the agreement, but JO MPs stormed in and tried to seize the mace, he said, likening it to spectators forcing their way into the stadium after an incident.

The minister refrained from answering a question if the diplomatic mission in question belonged to a small or a big, or a neighbouring or a faraway country.
